Fears / Phobias / Bad Habits

Where to start….. People have all kinds of fears, some more debilitating than others but a problem all the same. You’ve probably heard of the more common ones – fear of the dark, small or tight spaces, crowds, flying, elevators, public speaking, etc. What about getting a shot with a needle? Leaving the house and moving through a public space? Using a public rest room? It’s easy for someone to simply say that fear is silly. What’s the big deal? Get over it. That’s easier said than done.

Quite often, the fear was acquired possibly many years ago and left an “imprint”, a memory that your conscious mind might have trouble recalling but it’s front and center in your subconscious mind. If you got stung by a bee at an early age, that may have been traumatic enough that it left an excessive fear of bugs as an adult. Is that normal? Some may not think so but its normal for you and that can make for a problem. If you’re afraid to enjoy the outdoors because of this fear, it can drastically affect your quality of life. Can’t get on a plane? You might have trouble getting to Hawaii or Europe. Have problems getting into an elevator? At least you’re getting a lot of good exercise climbing all those steps.

Anew Hypnotherapy can use regression to mentally go back in time to recall the traumatic experience and help you deal with it. While your conscious mind might not remember the incident, your subconscious stores every memory throughout your life and you’ll be able to recall the incident in great detail. Once that imprint is removed, your fear is removed and you’re able to function “normally”. Another technique is NLP - Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Hypnosis works particularly well for removing fears and it’s usually accomplished in one session.

The same goes for behaviors you would like to eliminate. Nail biting, twirling your hair, constantly saying a phrase (“Aah”, “ya know”, etc.) are all habits that we do subconsciously. We may not even be aware we're doing them. Nobody ever says “Mmmm. Look at that yummy finger nail. I’ve been saving that one up for later and tonight’s the night!” No. You're chomping away and never realize you’re doing so. The goal with these behaviors is to make you consciously aware of the behavior so you can make the correction. Once you’re consciously aware that your fingers are moving towards your mouth, you can stop them midway and correct the behavior. Again, these behavior modifications can often be done in one session.
